Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.

HEADLINES

  • The government is funded through September, and attention now turns to Republicans’ efforts to use the budget reconciliation process to advance their agenda.
  • President Donald Trump will host the third cabinet meeting of his second term.
  • The Senate returns from its first recess week planning to approve several of Trump’s nominees.

HOUSE

  • The House is currently scheduled to hold floor votes tonight through Thursday, taking up legislation to overturn energy efficiency regulations from the Biden administration.
  • The Energy and Commerce Energy Subcommittee will hold a hearing tomorrow on power grid reliability with several regional grid operators.  
  • Wednesday, the Appropriations Transportation Subcommittee will hold an oversight hearing with the National Transportation Safety Board.

SENATE

  • The Senate plans to vote on several of Trump’s agency nominees.  
  • The Intelligence Committee will hold an open hearing tomorrow on worldwide threats with top intelligence officials, who will also testify in the House Wednesday.
  • Thursday, the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee will hold a hearing on campus protests and ensuring safe learning environments.

WHITE HOUSE

  • Trump will hold his third cabinet meeting today, and participate in a Greek Independence Day Celebration.
  • Wednesday, Vice President JD Vance will speak to Marines at Quantico, Virginia.
  • Trump on Wednesday will meet with the House Republican women’s caucus at the White House.
