Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.

HEADLINES

  • President Donald Trump, for the first time in his second presidency, will deliver an address to a joint session of Congress.
  • Trump will also host the first White House Crypto Summit.
  • Lawmakers are seeking agreement on a plan to extend government funding, with current funding set to expire next week.

HOUSE

  • The House will hold floor votes tonight through Thursday, taking up resolutions to overturn several Biden administration actions.
  • The Transportation and Infrastructure Aviation Subcommittee will hold a hearing tomorrow on air traffic control infrastructure and staffing.
  • Also tomorrow, the Financial Services Housing and Insurance Subcommittee will hold a hearing on housing supply.

SENATE

  • The Senate will continue voting on Trump’s nominees, including Linda McMahon to be secretary of education.  
  • Several hearings on nominees are scheduled, including the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee regarding Dr. Martin Makary’s nomination to be commissioner of food and drugs.
  • Wednesday, the Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on antisemitism.

WHITE HOUSE

  • Trump will address a joint session of Congress, similar to a State of the Union speech, tomorrow night.
  • Also tomorrow, previously delayed tariffs on Mexico and Canada are scheduled to take effect.
  • Friday, Trump will host the first-ever White House Crypto Summit.
