Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.

HEADLINES

  • President Donald Trump is hosting meetings with the leaders of France and the United Kingdom.
  • Republicans hope to take a crucial step to advance their ambitious legislative plans as the House plans to vote on their budget resolution, but the outcome is in doubt given their one-vote margin.

HOUSE

  • The House will hold floor votes tonight through Thursday, taking up Republicans’ budget resolution to advance their reconciliation plans – but leadership can only afford to lose one vote, and several lawmakers appear are signaling opposition.
  • The Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing tomorrow on policies to counter China.
  • Also tomorrow, the Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee will hold a hearing on trade enforcement priorities.

SENATE

  • Having advanced its own budget blueprint, the Senate will continue voting on Trump’s nominees, including Jamieson Greer to be U.S. trade representative.
  • The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on Wednesday will hold a hearing on Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act implementation.
  • Also Wednesday, the Senate Banking Digital Assets Subcommittee will hold a hearing on legislation to regulate digital assets.

  • French President Emmanuel Macron is visiting the White House today.
  • Trump will hold his first formal cabinet meeting Wednesday.
  • Thursday, Trump will host British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the White House.
