A well-rounded member of the Labor and Employment Practice Group, Payne Horning focuses his practice on advising and representing clients on wage and hour matters; claims of discrimination, retaliation, harassment and failure to accommodate; compliance with federal, state and local employment laws; and drafting separation and severance agreements, restrictive covenants, employment agreements and employee handbooks. Payne also conducts fact-finding investigations into various types of employee complaints and provides various workplace trainings. A former award-winning journalist, he owns a unique skillset for finding answers to complex questions in legal matters.
Payne has represented Fortune 500 corporations, franchises, universities, municipal entities, biotechnology companies, manufacturers and other large employers in federal and state courts, as well as before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and New York State Division of Human Rights, including drafting position statements, answers and subpoenas and preparing witnesses for conferences. He has substantive litigation experience in single plaintiff and class action claims, and has also represented clients in other litigation, from Title IX to tort claims.
