As a member of the firm’s Catastrophic Accident Response team, Emily Mott has extensive crisis management and response experience across the oil and gas, energy, chemical, manufacturing and transportation industries. Emily provides immediate support and counsel in response to major accidents, including performing on-site work, managing regulatory and legal obligations, and defending against resulting enforcement and litigation. She is well-versed in performing internal investigations and managing agency investigations in the wake of accidents, including investigations by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Chemical Safety Board (CSB). Emily uses her background in investigations, including root causes analyses and whistleblower investigations, to help companies foresee and prevent future liability.

Emily also has experience in analyzing company compliance with various environmental and safety regulations and standards, such as OSHA’s process safety management (PSM) standard and EPA’s Risk Management Program (RMP). She regularly manages agency inspections on-site and helps companies evaluate compliance, while limiting exposure. As a member of the firm’s OSHA Defense team, Emily regularly counsels clients on workplace health and safety issues with a focus on compliance and worker safety.

Emily also handles complex litigation, including safety, environmental, climate change, greenwashing and commercial topics. She has trial experience, in addition to experience negotiating settlements with federal agencies and private plaintiffs. She is also well-versed in arbitration proceedings and mediation.
