Expanding privacy laws and an explosion of website tracking litigation have put a spotlight on understanding and accurately disclosing details about website personal data collection. But, other modes of personal data collection – apps, connected devices, wearables, and third-party data sources, including data brokers – are often overlooked in privacy compliance projects. These sources can contribute vast amounts of personal data to a company’s data ecosystem, often unnoticed and undisclosed to consumers. Regulators have been signaling that these data sources are on their radar and may pose significant privacy compliance gaps.

This webinar will explore some common personal data collection blind spots to help in-house counsel effectively identify and manage associated risks. Topics will include:

  • Finding overlooked personal data – where to search, what questions to ask SMEs, and when to raise concerns
  • Understanding how SDKs and other third-party data collection mechanisms can create notice obligations, restrict personal data uses, and complicate responding to privacy rights requests
  • Onboarding data brokers and other third-party data sources to prevent problematic personal data ingestion
  • How combining data sources can lead to profiling, generate inferences, or otherwise alter privacy compliance requirements

1.0 CLE credit hour approved for CA, NY, PA, and TX. Approval pending for CO, DE, IL, GA, FL, OH, NJ, and WA. Other states may be available upon request following the webinar.
