Partner Carlos Ortiz and Associate Kayley Sullivan were recognized by Litigation Daily as First Runners-Up in the publication’s Sept. 8 “Litigator of the Week Runners-Up and Shout Outs” column – and were named Law360 Legal Lions of the Week – after convincing a federal court to reverse multiple fraud convictions on behalf of client Full Play Group.
In a jury trial this past spring, Full Play was convicted of wire fraud, money laundering and bribes in international sports marketing agreements, but on Sept. 1, U.S. District Court Judge Pamela Chen issued a 55-page order granting our motion to fully vacate the convictions. She agreed with Ortiz and Sullivan’s argument that there is no U.S. criminal jurisdiction over bribery allegations related to a private South American soccer confederation.
