An Aug. 29 article in The National Law Journal examines recent Federal Trade Commission (FTC) action against a company it is accusing of exaggerating AI claims to woo investors. Titled “Automators Case Signals Future FTC Scrutiny for AI, Consumer Lawyers Say” (subscription required), the article quotes Partner Daniel Kaufman about the broader implications of the case.

While this is the first individual case brought by the FTC for alleged AI scams, Kaufman told the publication, it is in keeping with the agency’s public statements. He said the FTC has been talking about AI “a lot,” and is looking closely at how new digital tools may “be used in ways that violate the FTC Act.”

Kaufman was also quoted about recent FTC enforcement efforts in an Aug. 30 article by HBW Insight titled “Supreme Court’s AMG Ruling Trimmed FTC’s Toolbox But Didn’t Scalp Its Regulatory Authority” (subscription required).
