Partner Melissa Mannino’s comments during a session of the Massachusetts Export Center Export Expo were quoted in Export Compliance Daily in an article titled “Former BIS Official: ‘I’ve Never Seen Enforcement Environment Like This.’” Published Jan. 29, 2024, the article describes the record year for export enforcement by the Bureau of Industry and Security, with Mannino suggesting the current state of BIS enforcement is unprecedented.
Mannino stated that risk levels are rising and companies will need to pay even closer attention to their sanctions screening and record-keeping, from knowing all the parties in their transactions to documenting all due diligence.
