Partners Matthew Oliver and Adam Skilken served as legal counsel to Big Blue Marble Academy (BBMA) on its sale by Chicago-based private equity firm Avathon Capital to New York-based private equity firm Leeds Equity Partners. Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Auburn, Alabama, BBMA operates 67 schools across eight states and provides early care, preschool, after-school care and summer programs for children ages six weeks to 12 years.
Avathon selectively targets opportunities where it can invest $20 to $50 million of equity capital and take a meaningful ownership position in companies with the potential to become enduring and strategically important businesses in their market. Avathon invested in BBMA in 2018; BBMA has grown to now educate over 10,000 students and employ over 2,000 staff members.
