Chief Information Officer Katherine Lowry and Partner James Sherer provided commentary for “5 Issues That Shaped Legal Tech in 2023 Besides AI,” published Dec. 18, 2023, by Law360. In the section titled “More Data Breaches,” Lowry stated that data security and following the firm’s cybersecurity protocols would always be at the forefront for BakerHostetler.
In “Uneven Talent Demand,” Lowry opined that law firms face a shortage of legal process engineers who can explain technology to the attorneys and staff, and that it is difficult to find individuals with a blend of law and technology. To address the shortage, BakerHostetler partnered with Georgia State University College of Law to create a legal process engineer program that first launched in January 2022.
In the “Data Management Pressures” section, Partner James Sherer stated that clients can be caught in the middle when U.S. financial regulators are telling companies they are not retaining enough data while European regulators are saying they are collecting too much data or have kept data for too long.
