Partner John Carney was quoted in a May 23, 2023, Corporate Counsel article titled “DOJ’s New Self-Reporting Program Leaves Companies With Tough Call on Whether to Fess Up.”
In January, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced incentives to encourage companies to self-report malfeasance. The upside for companies is that they may face no consequences for wrongdoing if they report it, according to the article; the downside is that reporting could bring the DOJ’s attention to something that wouldn’t have otherwise come to light.
The DOJ’s policy revision means “you’re going to see scrutiny like you’ve never seen before,” Carney told Corporate Counsel.
