In the wake of the surprise ouster, then reinstatement, of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman earlier this month, concerns about the operations of OpenAI's nonprofit board have been aired – and questions raised as to whether changes in its makeup and/or governance could be on the horizon.
A Nov. 21 Reuters article titled “Few ways to force OpenAI governance changes, legal experts say” grapples with this topic, and Partner Alexander Reid is quoted extensively in the piece. As he tells Reuters, “because it is a nonprofit, the only people who could force the current board of OpenAI to step down or change are judges or state attorneys general.”
