Partner Edward Beckwith is profiled in The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel Weekly Update feature, “I Wish I Had Known.” In the article, published Jan. 26, 2024, Beckwith shares knowledge gained from his practice, teaching and service to the College:
“Ours is a multidisciplinary and challenging practice. We apply technically complex legal and tax concepts to deeply personal situations. It is important to master the technical aspects of what we do and to know when to ask others for assistance. However, what we do and how we approach it matters. Ours is an interactive personal service, not a product. Clients come to us with varying degrees of experience and ability, or even willingness, to comprehend the intricacies of what we do. But they always remember whether we take the time to relate what we do to how it will benefit them and those for whom they care the most. A well-considered chart or diagram and an understanding and patient explanation are often more meaningful and impactful than a long, technical memorandum or letter filled with citations and legal jargon. In short, most clients appreciate what we do for them more than knowing how we get it done.”
