Daniel Kaufman is quoted extensively by The National Law Journal in a June 30, 2023, article titled “FTC Proposes Ban on Companies Producing Fake Product Reviews.” The Federal Trade Commission’s proposed rule “would trigger civil penalties for violators and should help level the playing field for honest companies,” according to the agency.

Given how many people rely on online reviews to help them make decisions on all kind of purchases, they are “incredibly important,” Kaufman told the publication. “So from the FTC perspective, to the extent that there are review practices that are skewing the market, that’s a problem, and that’s what the FTC is attempting to tackle here,” he said.

When its proposed rule is published in the Federal Register, the FTC will open a 60-day comment period, according to the article.
