Accolades for the firm in BTI’s Litigation Outlook include Powerhouse ranking for Cybersecurity and BTI Intimidating Opponent designation for the firm’s overall litigation prowess.

WASHINGTON — Sept. 12, 2024 BakerHostetler has again been recognized as one of the nation’s leading law firms for litigation in the annual BTI Litigation Outlook. The firm received top marks for its mastery in cybersecurity, intellectual property, labor and employment, product liability, class action defense and commercial litigation.

BTI Consulting surveys hundreds of large companies with $1 billion in revenue or more each year to determine which law firms are best suited to meet their most critical litigation needs. In nearly every category, BakerHostetler attorneys are included among the best in the U.S.

“Corporate counsel continue to rank BakerHostetler among the top litigation firms in the just-released BTI Consulting Group's BTI Litigation Outlook 2025 report," says Michael B. Rynowecer, who directs the survey of more than 250 top legal decision-makers and is BTI's President. "The firm is one of only five firms ranked as a Cybersecurity Litigation Powerhouse. The firm is also ranked as an Intimidating Opponent. This is a potent combination in today's world of litigation."

Digital assets and data management

For four years running, the Digital Assets and Data Management Practice Group (DADM) has held the elite “Powerhouse” spot on the BTI list, placing it in the top 1% of firms nationally for data privacy class action litigation. The team’s strength derives from its experience helping clients with enterprise risks, disputes, compliance and opportunities through the life cycle of data. The team represents more covered entities in incident, regulatory and litigation responses than its peer firms.

“It's no coincidence that BakerHostetler’s DADM group has been named a Cybersecurity Powerhouse for the fourth consecutive year. We were a pioneering law firm in the data privacy field and have helped companies, ranging from startups to Fortune 100 firms, in high-stakes data collection and digital asset management litigation,” said Ted Kobus, BakerHostetler’s DADM Practice Group chair. “As technology keeps evolving – especially with advances in artificial intelligence, blockchain and cryptocurrencies – our highly skilled lawyers and technologists remain on the frontlines to best represent our clients. Our attorneys are winning cases and creating case law daily; recognitions like these help cement our reputation as a global leader in cyber litigation.”

Litigation

The more than 400-lawyer-strong Litigation Practice Group, comprising hard-charging and strategically focused trial lawyers nationwide, was, for the fourth year in a row, named an Intimidating Opponent in the BTI report. It was one of only 29 firms recognized in this category.

BakerHostetler’s Class Action Defense and Product Liability and Toxic Tort teams were also recognized in the Leaders category, honoring the top 4% and top 6% of law firms, respectively. The Commercial Litigation team was also recognized in the Leaders category for Commercial Litigation (top 10%) and the Distinguished category for Complex Commercial Litigation, which honors the top 10% of all firms.

“Our litigation bench has a proven ability to prevail in bet-the-company litigation matters,” said Ray Whitman, chair of BakerHostetler’s national Litigation Practice Group. “We represent market-leading clients in virtually every type of case and proceeding in local, national and international jurisdictions. When our clients face a trial, we are their fiercest advocate.”

Labor and employment

BakerHostetler’s Labor and Employment Practice Group increased its ranking for complex employment litigation, placing in the Leader category, which honors the top 8% of firms nationwide. This is the second consecutive year the firm has moved up a tier for complex employment litigation.

“Our BTI ranking is a testament to the knowledge and experience of the nearly 100 employment attorneys we have across the country,” said Amy Traub, Labor and Employment Practice Group chair. “Employment litigation has become increasingly complex as companies need to comply with a web of federal, state and local laws. We’re grateful for our many long-term relationships with clients and for the opportunity to help new companies with bespoke solutions to the legal challenges they face.”

Intellectual property

The Intellectual Property Practice Group was named an IP litigation Standout, representing the top 16% of firms nationwide. Working with many of the largest global innovators in software, artificial intelligence, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, robotics, communications and many other industries, BakerHostetler’s IP group is a market leader in helping clients protect their competitive advantage provided by their valuable IP.

“This is the third year in a row that our IP litigators have been recognized in the BTI report, adding to the accolades received from Chambers USA, The Legal 500, IAM and World Trademark Review,” said Mark Tidman, IP Practice Group chair. “Our lawyers’ broad-based technical knowledge and deep understanding of their clients’ industries provide a clear advantage when handling disputes involving everything from patents, copyright and trade secrets to complex trademarks, unfair competition and anticounterfeiting.”

BTI Litigation Outlook 2025

The BTI report is compiled from interviews with top legal decision-makers who are asked to identify the best-suited firms to meet their most pressing litigation needs.
