The revolutionary legacy management fintech application FinClar has been named an American Lawyer Industry Award Finalist in the “Best Use of Technology” category. Announced August 26, 2024, the awards recognize outstanding achievements and contributions made by individuals, law firms and legal departments across a variety of practice areas and specialties. Winners will be revealed at the black tie awards banquet on November 13, 2024, in New York City.

Developed by Partner Jonathan Forster, FinClar (aptly named for producing financial clarity) takes the legacy management experience to the next level, giving users the ability to visualize their planning by offering explicit dashboards identifying legacy allocations among family, transfer tax exposure and a number of other extremely important inflection points.

It took the Private Wealth team about six years to develop the app and then two years to beta test it with clients. Some of the key advantages of FinClar include:

  • Confident decision-making – Provides clients and advisors with the information they need to make fully informed choices.
  • Client independence – Gives a comprehensive view of the family’s balance sheet and legacy flow so clients no longer have to rely on others for timely information.
  • Efficiency gains – FinClar streamlines the gathering and analyzing of data, allowing clients and advisers to focus on strategy.
  • NexGen education – Serves as a platform for the next generation to be better stewards of the family legacy and promotes a seamless transition of legacy management knowledge.
  • Encourages a disciplined planning cadence needed to manage the ebbs and flows of family dynamics.
