Partner Alexander read was quoted in a Tax Notes article titled “Ayahuasca Church Continues Fight for Tax-Favored Status” regarding the rehearing request filed by Iowaska Church for their rejected tax-exempt application. Published August 9, 2024, the article explains that the church was formed for an illegal purpose – to distribute a substance containing dimethyltryptamine – and that a significant part of its activities didn’t further the exempt purpose.
